Gamers Level Up with a Wedding at Timezone
Christchurch, New Zealand, February 2024: Local lovebirds Dr. Grace Walker and Adam Brown have found a unique way to say ‘I do’ this week, by getting married at the popular social entertainment destination, Timezone in Riccarton. Opting for an intimate celebration, this marks the first-ever wedding hosted by Timezone, known for its wide network of more than 300 venues across seven countries.
Dr. Grace, a Data Scientist and start-up founder, and Adam Brown, an Executive Assistant and Butchery apprentice, first connected through a dating app and bonded over their love of gaming. Swapping the aisle for the bowling alley, the couple chose Timezone as their wedding venue because it held sentimental value as the site of their very first date and it’s been the place where they’ve made lots of happy memories ever since.
“It’s our happy place, and we go to Timezone often to relax and for a short time forget about all the adult stresses of life,” says Dr. Grace. “We come for regular date nights because we are competitive with each other, and we love winning prizes. On an early date, Adam won an owl from the claw machine for me that I still have. Ironically, I have an owl tattoo on my arm because I have always loved owls.”
Not usually marketed as a wedding venue, the couple approached Timezone to get permission for their special event and Lachlan Sollitt, Duty Manager of Timezone Riccarton, was very supportive.
Anna Romano, Marketing Director at Timezone New Zealand, says; “We are absolutely thrilled that Adam and Grace have chosen to get married at Timezone. It is a privilege to be their designated ‘happy place’ where their occasions have evolved from date nights to celebrating their wedding. Timezone is the ultimate destination for celebrations, and we are obsessed with making our guests happy – whatever the occasion may be!”
The wedding was officiated by celebrant Louise Phillips and attended by Anna Romano and Lachlan Sollitt from Timezone who acted as witnesses. Dr. Grace wore a white dress from Pagani and a veil, while Adam wore a dark blue suit. As part of their celebrations, the newlyweds took on each other in a series of games including Claw, Bumper Cars, Mini Golf and Social Bowling before enjoying a comic strip-themed wedding cake topped with characters Spock and Harley Quinn.
As for the honeymoon? That’s a trip to Surfer’s Paradise in Australia, with the chosen hotel within easy walking distance of the one of the world’s largest Timezone , of course!
